We are LCL: Interview with Trevor Dias
Helping one cyclist at a time
We caught up with Trevor Dias on Zoom recently, and he took us back to the earliest days of LCL and SWBC.
LCL: What does your bike help you to do the most?
TD: Be grounded, I think, and be happy. Just getting out there and being by myself and having time to think.
LCL: What has been the best thing that has happened to you on a bike?
TD: I think the best thing is to help me connect to our community and friends that would also like to bike, and brought me in touch with like-minded people. That's probably the best.
LCL: How did you first get connected with London Cycle Link or the Squeaky Wheel?
TD: I was working at MEC, and one of my co-workers in the cycling department mentioned that some people were trying to open a bike co-op in London, and we went to the first meeting. So that was how I met (former Executive Director) Dan Hall, Tim (Pearson) and Luis (Patricio). Those are the ones that were there that I remember the most. And we had a couple of other meetings to help getting started but that's basically how my connection got started.
LCL: Finish this sentence: I support London Cycle Link and Squeaky Wheel because…?
TD: It's the sense of community, and I love helping people learn more about bikes. And to me the whole Squeaky Wheel project was really a great way to do that, get connected with other people who love bikes and to help people learn. To teach one person how to fix a flat, that would be great. If I can help one person be self-sufficient on their bike, that’s awesome. I know this because I worked at MEC and part of my job was to do workshops and stuff like that. And I would get feedback from the workshops I did, so I thought I was helping people. And I thought if I could put that to use in a broader sense, that really was amazing.
