About the Organization

London Cycle Link is a member supported non-profit organization dedicated to helping Londoners ride bikes more. Through education, advocacy and community-building efforts we envision a healthy, vibrant London where it’s safe and convenient for everyone to cycle. To achieve our impact we teach cycling skills through our Ride to Thrive education program, host events, advocate for better bike infrastructure, and operate Squeaky Wheel Bike Co-op.

About the Program

The Ride to Thrive program focuses on teaching grade 5 and 6 students in a fair, equitable and accepting environment, that cycling is for everyone. When participating in Ride to Thrive, students learn about cycling rules & safety, basic bike maintenance, and bike handling skills, and are given the opportunity to put their skills into practice on a neighbourhood road ride.

About the Role

The Educational Program Coordinator will manage our cycling education program (Ride to Thrive), supported by a team of trained instructors and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of instructors teaching elementary aged students safe cycling skills, and delivering a fun, active cycling education program. 

  • Understand all details of London Cycle Link’s Ride to Thrive education program, including course delivery, target audience, and school systems.

  • Engage with school and community contacts to schedule and organize programs, including all logistics, conveying the importance and value of cycling education.

  • Plan and schedule cycling education programs, including coordinating with instructors, external/internal communications, use of spreadsheets and Google platforms, and providing educational information and materials. 

  • Coordinate storage and equipment for programs, including bikes, helmets, other equipment, activity materials and related items.

  • Conduct follow-up communications with program contacts, to compile and collect feedback data, with some analysis and reporting.

  • Assist with communications, social media and website updates as necessary.

  • Support the hiring and training of new Ride to Thrive instructors.

  • Write and report on grants to financially support the Ride to Thrive program.

You are:

  • Friendly, professional and an excellent communicator.

  • Passionate and experienced working with children, and aware of the role bicycles can play in building happier, healthier and more connected communities.

  • Experienced at coordinating volunteers and planning events; able to work independently and as a team player.  

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at working with many moving parts and logistics to run effective and efficient programming.

  • In possession of (or willing to obtain) a current Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations.

  • In possession of a driver’s license.

Bonus Points

  • Teaching background, experience working with  school systems

  • Knowledge of bike mechanics

  • Experience working for or volunteering with non-profit organizations

Job Specifications

  • Hours: 490 hours/year (flexible hours will vary depending on season: spring and fall are our busy seasons)

  • Compensation: $25/hour

  • Flexible start date

  • Training (CAN-Bike 4 and Ride to Thrive program training) will be provided.
