London Cycle Link is a member supported non-profit organization dedicated to helping Londoners ride bikes more. Through education, advocacy and community-building efforts we envision a healthy, vibrant London where it’s safe and convenient for everyone to cycle. To achieve our impact we teach cycling skills through our Ride to Thrive education program, host events, advocate for better bike infrastructure, and operate Squeaky Wheel Bike Co-op.
About the Role
The educational assistant will support the educational program coordinator in Ride to Thrive cycling education programming. Ride to Thrive is a program that focuses on giving grade 5 and 6 students the skills and confidence to ride their bikes safely on the road. Lessons include cycling and the environment, basic mechanics, rules and safety, bike handling skills, and neighbourhood road riding.
Duties and Responsibilities
Receive training in bicycle education for children and youth
Assist in coordinating Ride to Thrive cycling education programming, including scheduling and course delivery
Help to coordinate storage and transport of equipment for programs, including bikes, helmets, activity materials, certificates, teaching materials, etc.
Work with a team to instruct children and youth in public school classes on safe cycling skills
Work with community partners, including newcomer and vulnerable community child and youth programs, to offer community specific Ride to Thrive summer camps
Assist with communications, social media and website updates as necessary
Support additional Ride to Thrive and other educational program tasks—including newcomer youth education programs—and other duties as assigned by supervisor
Work with other staff to run community and outreach events (e.g. bike rodeos) that focus on safe cycling education
Qualifications
Ability to ride a bike
Comfort working with children in and outside of a classroom
Must be able to provide a police records check

Knowledge of bike mechanics
Experience working for or volunteering with a non-profit organization
A strong understanding of and commitment to anti-oppressive values and practices
Job Specifications
Hours: 30 hours/week
Compensation: $15.50/hour
Ten-week contract, starting late April or May
All youth aged 15 to 30 years are eligible participants
