London Cycle Link is a member supported non-profit dedicated to helping Londoners ride more. Through education, advocacy and community-building efforts we envision a healthy, vibrant London where it’s safe and convenient for everyone to cycle. We host events, teach cycling skills, launch campaigns and operate the Squeaky Wheel Bike Co-op to achieve our impact.

The Squeaky Wheel Bike Co-op is a DIY community bike shop providing Londoners with an accessible environment where they can learn about bicycle maintenance and cycling as a safe and sustainable means of transportation. About the Role

Working with staff and volunteers at London Cycle Link, the Education Program Coordinator will launch our new cycling education program for school-aged children.  There will be a team of volunteers who will be training as cycling instructors this spring who you will work with to pilot the Cycling Education Program here in London.

The Education Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing cycling skills training for London Youth, administering logistics for the skills training, and reporting back on the success and lessons learned.  They will work independently and alongside staff and volunteers to set up pilot cycling education programs for youth in the summer and plan for the fall and into the future.  They will create a communication and promotional plan for the training program and support other events and activities in the organization as time permits.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understanding of London Cycle Link’s Bike Education program delivery, including course delivery, target audience, and municipal school systems

  • Outreaching to school and community contacts to schedule and organize programs including all program logistics, conveying the importance and value of bike education

  • Scheduling programs with external / internal communications efficiently, using tools and systems such as spreadsheets, and Google platforms

  • Scheduling bike education instructors to deliver programs; ensuring they have all information needed to deliver high quality programming

  • Coordinating storage of equipment for programs, including bikes, helmets, activity materials, prizes, give-aways, and related items

  • Conducting follow-up communications with program contacts and participants to compile and collect feedback

  • Assisting in compiling, analyzing and reporting on program data

  • Assisting with communications, social media and website updates as necessary

  • Supporting additional Bike Education program tasks and other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • You are friendly, professional and an excellent communicator

  • You have a passion and some experience working with children

  • You have experience coordinating volunteers and planning events

  • You are able to work both independently and as a team player  

  • You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at working with many moving parts and logistics to run effective and efficient programming

  • You are confident and efficient using computer programs including Google mail, calendar, sheets & docs

  • You have a current Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations (or are willing to obtain one)

  • You are passionate about the role bicycles can play in building happier, healthier and more connected communities

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with public school systems

  • Experience working in a non-profit organization

  • Experience with bike shops, either as a volunteer or staff member

  • A strong understanding of and commitment to anti-oppressive values and practices

  • Digital communication skills including social media, website, and videography

  • Knowledge/interest in cycling culture and cycling advocacy

Job Specifications

  • Compensation: $15.25 /hr (depending on experience)

  • Hours: 30 hours / week - some evening and weekend work required

  • All youth aged 15 to 30 years are eligible participants

  • Nine-week contract with anticipated start date July 6, 2021

  • Reports to: Executive Director
