(RESCHEDULED from May 5)
Group Riding and Ride Marshal Training WorkShop
This workshop is for anyone interested in group riding.
Part 1 will cover the ins and outs of the etiquette of riding in a large group:
Riding your bike recreationally can be a great solo hobby, but riding with others can be bring the enjoyment to new heights. It can also be safer, and even more efficient in some cases. But it can also be intimidating. There are many ways in which this form of recreation can be enjoyed in numbers. Group rides with friends, group rides with a cycling club, gran fondo events, or large parade-like slow rolls. In each of these settings there’s an etiquette and protocol, some more formal than others.
In this workshop about group riding, Fred will unpack each of these settings and talk about why they can be fun, and how, with just a few key rules in mind, you can get the most enjoyment out of them!
In Part 2, Vince will cover how to be a Ride Marshal. It is important that any large, event-type rides are controlled properly, are safe and fun for the riders. Marshals help make this happen. Topics included are:
Why group rides need marshals
What a marshal does during a group ride
How it’s done
Ride code of conduct
This workshop is intended in getting more riders interested in group riding and allowing London Cycle Link to develop a cadre of trained marshals for events like the Forest City Slow Roll and Glow Ride.
